Establish the foundation. Movement quality, strength, mobility and the habits that hold.
Strength, mobility and endurance are not the goal. They are the tools. Root & Summit builds the physical foundation that lets you live, work and move with earned confidence.

Capability builds confidence.
Most coaching focuses on changing how you look. I believe the real purpose of training is to change how you live. Strength, endurance, mobility and skill are not ends in themselves. They are tools for building confidence, resilience and freedom, at home, at work, and with yourself.
The method has two phases. First we establish the foundation. Then we expand what you are capable of.

Establish the foundation. Movement quality, strength, mobility and the habits that hold.

Expand what you are capable of. Progression, challenge, and the confidence that comes from doing.
Before you climb, you need roots.
Root
Who are you? Your goals, history, lifestyle, motivations, and what progress actually means to you.
Where are you now? We assess movement, strength, mobility, conditioning and habits.
Where are we going, and how? Priorities, structure, frequency, and the habits that support it.
Build the foundation. Fundamental strength, movement quality, mobility and physical confidence.
Summit
Progress strength, endurance, mobility and coordination beyond the baseline.
Challenges that reveal abilities you didn't think you had, and expand what you believe you can do.
Technique, consistency and confidence through deliberate practice.
Apply it. Sport, work, everyday life, recreation, or a personal challenge.
Training becomes part of life, with routines that adapt as circumstances change.
You gain the knowledge and confidence to increasingly guide your own development.
The goal isn't a six-week transformation.
It is building habits and capabilities that last a lifetime, and a person who no longer needs a coach to keep climbing.
I don't see athletes, retirees or professionals first. I see individuals with different stories. Answer three questions and I'll show you the path that fits, and where on the climb you're likely starting.

People with demanding schedules who want efficient training, more energy and sustainable habits. Twenty focused minutes brings clarity to the day.
Consistency. Structure. Presence.

Composure under pressure. Courage.

People who want the freedom to keep doing what they love, supported by greater strength, balance and mobility. Ageing does not imply physical limitation.

I'm Shawn Scullion, founder of Root & Summit. For as long as I can remember, I've pursued two passions: athletics and learning. They took me from national competitions in Canada to the NCAA in the United States, and from classrooms in North America to graduate studies in Italy. Today I bring together more than twenty years of athletic experience, a lifelong commitment to learning, and a background in corporate consulting and business development to help others become stronger, healthier and more capable.

“When I started, I could barely manage one pull-up with a resistance band. Six months later, I was doing pull-ups with an extra 15 kg.”
I trained with Shawn during our studies together in Italy, and his dedication and discipline are unparalleled. His commitment during workouts is something I've never witnessed before. He's always on time, always prepared to give you his absolute best, even on the bad days.
He knows better than anyone how to silence that little voice telling you to stop before the last rep. When I started, I could barely manage one pull-up with a resistance band. Under his guidance, six months later, I was doing pull-ups with an extra 15 kg, and that says it all.
“His ability to fully understand my physical condition and needs allowed him to personalize a gradual and efficient program that's keeping me excited and motivated.”

“What stood out is how focused he is on finding the root of the problem, not just treating symptoms.”
I've worked with a few trainers before, and most just listen enough to hand you a plan. This was different.
I came in feeling drained, dealing with nagging issues that never went away, and stuck no matter how consistent I tried to be. Instead of jumping straight into workouts, he slowed down and asked real questions — about my sleep, stress, old injuries, and daily habits. It felt like he was actually trying to understand the full picture.
What stood out is how focused he is on finding the root of the problem, not just treating symptoms. He helped me see that a lot of what I thought was “normal” was connected to how I was recovering and managing stress. Once we addressed those deeper pieces, my energy improved, the issues eased up, and training finally felt productive.
It's rare to find someone who treats you like a whole person. If you want someone who truly listens and works on what's really holding you back, he's the real deal.
